Thank you once again for your donation to ProximityCuba’s Tornado Relief Fund.

Dear Supporter,

Thank you once again for your donation to ProximityCuba’s Tornado Relief Fund. The tornado, which was responsible for 7 deaths and 195 injured, hit us particularly hard. One of the victims, Ramon, is the father of Rosita, an Espiral member and leader.  Ramon lost his home when it collapsed in the 10 de Octubre municipality, one of the hardest hit areas of the city.  Thanks to your help and the caring efforts of the community project Espiral, we have been able to provide material aid directly to Ramon and the 10 de Octubre community.

In the days immediately following the tornado, we were able to raise $1,150 that Espiral has used to purchase necessities for the victims. So far, Espiral has already gone to Ramon’s neighborhood 3 times, delivering 100 bags with needed food, water, refreshments, soap, detergent, clothes and toys for children.  Fortunately, we have received enough donations to provide for another large aid effort. After this initial effort, Espiral returned to the neighborhood and, along with the local leaders, identified 20 families that were most critically affected.

Having identified families with the greatest need, Espiral formed small groups to visit each family – some of them with their houses completely destroyed – to ask them what are their most critical necessities. Most families agreed that they need food, water, detergent and toiletries. Based on these visits, and with the help of your generous donation, Espiral is currently collecting and delivering these needed items.

We humbly thank you for the generosity and support you showed in this difficult time. On behalf of the Cubans impacted by the tornado, members of Espiral and our staff at ProximityCuba, we want to affirm that your donation made a real impact for many people and families affected by the tornado.

In deepest gratitude,
